NON-IMMIGRANT VISAS
Visa Waiver Program

Travelers from 27 countries may be eligible to travel using the Visa Waiver Program. Effective October 26, 2004, U.S. law required that each Visa Waiver Program (VWP) traveler present a machine-readable passport or obtain a nonimmigrant visa. VWP travelers from Andorra, Belgium, Brunei, Liechtenstein, and Slovenia have been required to do so since 2003. A list of countries participating in the VWP are located here. If you do not have a Machine Readable Passport (MRP), you must obtain a U.S. visa. As of October 26, 2005, MRPs issued after October 26, 2005 will be required to contain a digitized photo or contactless chip that contains the data from the biopage of the passport. VWP travelers with MRPs issued before October 26, 2005 do not need to obtain new passports or visas in order to travel to the United States. Such MRPs will be valid for VWP travel until they expire.
