You
must be a U.S. Citizen to obtain a U.S. Passport.
You
will need four things to apply for a U.S. passport:
- Two
photographs
- A
completed passport application form
-
Proof of identity and U.S. citizenship
- Payment
for the passport issuance:
Adults: $us 55.00 for renewal, $us 85.00 for first-time
Children: $us 70.00 Parents should come in with their child
and bring proof of relationship.
Fees
must be paid in cash, in either U.S. dollars or the equivalent
in Bolivians.
You
will need to fill out a passport application form here at the
U.S. Embassy.
You
will also need two photographs, 2 inches by 2 inches in size (or
5 centimeters by 5 centimeters) showing a full face pose. Some
photo studios in La Paz that are familiar with U.S. passport photo
requirements are Estudio Fotografico Eguino (telephone 2356453),
Rapid Color (telephones 2371876 and 2790157) and Foto Mundo (telephone
2797100). You may have your photo taken at any studio as long
as the photograph is the right size, taken within the last six
months, and the image from the top of the head to the bottom of
the chin is not less than 2 ½ centimeters or more than 3.4 centimeters.
The background should be light.
You
will need proof of your identity and of U.S. citizenship. Ordinarily,
this will be your previous U.S. passport. If you are a first-time
applicant, then it might be a U.S. birth certificate (which would
prove U.S. citizenship) and an identity document with a photograph,
such as a driver's license.
If
your previous passport was lost or stolen, before applying for
a passport, you will also need a police report from the Bolivian
Tourist Police. Their office is located in the Olimpia Building,
in the "Plaza del Stadiurn" in the Miraflores area of La Paz,
telephone 2225016. The fee for a replacement of a lost or stolen
passport is $us 85.00 for adults, $70.00 for children (the same
as a first-time applicant).
How
to apply for a U.S. birth certificate of a U.S. Citizen
born outside of the United States:
You
will need five things:
- A completed application form (available at the Embassy)
- Bolivian Birth Certificate issued by the Corte Electoral
- Marriage certificate of parents
- Proof of one or both parents' U.S. citizenship (i.e, their
U.S. passports)
- Payment of 40 dollar issuance fee (in cash, in either US dollars
or the equivalent in Bolivians)
Parents
should come in with their child.
